Goalkeeper’s goal area

In the present-day game of football, it is very difficult to score a goal. One reason for this is that the goalkeeper has too much space in which to move and can act as a ‘sweeper’. To create more goals in the game, I recommend the following change in the rules:

Suggested new rule: The goalkeeper is only allowed to handle the ball inside the six yard box, instead of in the whole penalty area as at present. Infringement of this rule would result in a free kick from anywhere on the 18-yard line of the penalty area.

This rule would lead to a weakening of the defence, which should create more excitement and lead to more goals being scored. Today’s football suffers because a team can build an effective defensive wall in front of the goal (‘parking the bus’) and the goalkeeper can come and catch all balls within the penalty area.
